Overview

The Dagala Trek, also known as the “Thousand Lakes Trek,” is a 10-day adventure that combines Bhutan’s pristine alpine landscapes with cultural highlights in Paro and Thimphu. Starting from Genekha village, this moderate trek winds through oak and rhododendron forests, high passes, and sparkling glacial lakes, with breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and Bhutan’s own peaks. The journey begins with a hike to the sacred Tiger’s Nest Monastery and ends with cultural sightseeing in Thimphu and Paro, making it a perfect blend of nature, tradition, and spiritual discovery.

Difficulty: Moderate – Trekking & Cultural Tour

Day 1 – Paro Arrival

Arrive at Paro International Airport, meet your guide, and transfer to hotel. Visit Paro Dzong and stroll Paro town. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2 – Paro Tiger’s Nest Hike

Hike to the iconic Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, perched dramatically at 3,120m. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3 – Paro to Gur (Trek Start)

Drive to Genekha village to begin trek. Hike through pine and oak forests to Gur campsite. Overnight in tents.

Day 4 – Gur to Labatama

A challenging ascent to Pagalaptsha Pass (4225m) with views of Kanchenjunga. Continue to Labatama campsite by alpine lakes. Overnight in tents.

Day 5 – Labatama to Pangkha

Scenic trek past glacial lakes and Himalayan peaks before descending to riverside camp at Pangkha. Overnight in tents.

Day 6 – Pangkha to Sirigang

Hike over the last pass with views of Thimphu valley before descending through rhododendron forests to Sirigang campsite. Overnight in tents.

Day 7 – Sirigang to Thimphu (Trek End)

Final descent to Chamgang village where the trek ends. Drive to Thimphu for rest and overnight in hotel.

Day 8 – Thimphu Sightseeing

Visit Buddha Dordenma, Royal Takin Preserve, and Jungshi Paper Factory. Evening free to explore Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 9 – Thimphu to Paro

Visit Memorial Chorten and Textile Museum in Thimphu before driving to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Day 10 – Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure. Farewell and safe journey.
