The Druk Path Trek is one of Bhutan’s most popular short treks, taking 10 days to cross high ridges and alpine lakes between Paro and Thimphu. Known as the “High Road,” this moderate trek offers spectacular views of the eastern Himalayas, rhododendron forests, yak herder camps, and sacred lakes including Jigmelangtsho. Beginning with Paro and the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, the trek follows ancient trade routes and ends in Thimphu with cultural sightseeing. Perfect for travelers seeking a balanced mix of Bhutan’s wilderness and cultural heritage.
Arrive at Paro International Airport, complete visa formalities, and transfer to hotel. Visit Paro Dzong and stroll Paro town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 2 – Paro Tiger’s Nest
Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), perched at 3,120m. Sacred monastery linked to Guru Padmasambhava. Overnight in Paro.
Day 3 – Paro to Jela Dzong (Trek Start)
Drive to Damchena village and begin trek through pine forests to Jela Dzong. Camp near the fortress. Overnight in tents.
Day 4 – Jela Dzong to Tshokam
Trek along ridgelines and rhododendron forests, with yak herder camps along the way. Camp at Tshokam. Overnight in tents.
Day 5 – Tshokam to Jigmelangtsho
Ascend to 4,187m pass with panoramic views before descending to camp near Jigmelangtsho Lake, the largest on the route. Overnight in tents.
Day 6 – Jigmelangtsho to Lavana
Trek past glacial lakes and mossy rhododendron forests to Lavana, the highest camp on the trek. Overnight in tents.
Day 7 – Lavana to Thimphu (Trek End)
Cross Lavana Pass (4,240m) with views over the Himalayas, then descend to Phajoding Monastery overlooking Thimphu Valley. Trek ends with drive to Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 8 – Thimphu Sightseeing
Visit Buddha Dordenma, Takin Preserve, and Jungshi Paper Factory. Explore handicrafts and local markets. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 9 – Thimphu to Paro
Visit Memorial Chorten and Textile Museum before driving to Paro. Relax and prepare for departure. Overnight in Paro.
Day 10 – Departure
Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure. Farewell and prayers for a safe journey.
