Overview

The Nub Tshonapata Trek is an off-the-beaten-path journey into Bhutan’s remote Haa Valley. Over 11 days, the trek explores rhododendron forests, yak herder camps, and sacred lakes, culminating at the turquoise Nub Tshonapata Lake, a site of deep spiritual significance. Starting with cultural immersion in Paro and Haa, the trek takes you across high mountain passes like Gochhila and Talila, with sweeping Himalayan views. Alongside its natural beauty, the trek immerses you in Bhutan’s legends, traditions, and semi-nomadic lifestyles, making it both a cultural and adventurous journey.

Duration: 10 Nights / 11 Days

Best Time: Mar–Jun & Aug–Nov

Destinations: Paro, Haa, Womji, Nub Tshonapata, Tsojo, Thimphu

Difficulty: Moderate – High-Altitude Trek

Day 1 – Paro Arrival

Arrive at Paro International Airport. Visit Paro Dzong and stroll through Paro town. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2 – Tiger’s Nest Hike

Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan’s iconic cliffside monastery. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3 – Paro to Haa

Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and Drukgyal Dzong, then drive to Haa Valley via Chelela Pass. Overnight in farmhouse.

Day 4 – Haa to Womji (Trek Start)

Begin trek via Talela and Gochula passes. Pass yak herder camps before camping at Womji. Overnight in tents.

Day 5 – Womji to Nub Tshonapata

Trek to Nub Tshonapata Lake (3,750m), crossing alpine pastures and ancient trade routes. Overnight in tents.

Day 6 – Nub Tshonapata Halt

Rest day at Nub Tshonapata Lake. Explore yak camps, legends of Terton Sherub Mebar, and nearby lakes. Overnight in tents.

Day 7 – Tshonapata to Tsojo

Retrace to Gochhila Pass, then take new route to Tsojo Lake. Camp in yak meadow. Overnight in tents.

Day 8 – Tsojo to Haa (Trek End)

Descend gradually via Talila Pass to Haa Valley. End trek and stay in farmhouse. Overnight in Haa.

Day 9 – Haa to Thimphu

Drive via Chelela to Thimphu. Evening at leisure to explore Bhutan’s capital. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 10 – Thimphu to Paro

Visit Buddha Dordenma, Takin Preserve, and Jungshi Paper Factory before returning to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Day 11 – Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure. Farewell and safe journey.
