Haa Sagala + Druk Path Trek – 13 Days, Bhutan

Overview

The Haa Sagala Hike infused with the Druk Path Trek is a 13-day journey that combines cultural immersion in Paro, Haa, and Thimphu with a spectacular trek across alpine ridges, rhododendron forests, and high-altitude lakes. Starting with Paro’s sacred Tiger’s Nest, the journey explores Haa Valley and its traditions before hiking over the Sagala Pass into Paro. From there, the trek continues along the Druk Path, crossing panoramic high passes and camping beside crystal-clear lakes such as Jigmelangtsho, before descending into Thimphu. A perfect blend of culture, adventure, and Himalayan landscapes.

Destinations: Paro, Haa, Sagala, Jela Dzong, Tshokam, Jigmelangtsho, Lavana, Thimphu

Difficulty: Moderate – Trekking & Cultural Tour

Day 1 – Paro Arrival

Arrive at Paro Airport. Visit Paro Dzong and stroll Paro town & Kaja Throm. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2 – Tiger’s Nest Hike

Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery at 3,120m. Return to hotel and rest. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3 – Paro to Haa

Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and Drukgyal Dzong. Drive via Chele-la Pass to Haa Valley. Overnight in farmhouse.

Day 4 – Haa Sightseeing

Explore Haa Valley. Visit Lhakhang Karpo, Lhakhang Nagpo, and trout farm. Evening leisure. Overnight in farmhouse.

Day 5 – Haa to Paro via Sagala Pass

Early hike across Sagala Pass (3700m) with mountain views before descending into Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Day 6 – Paro to Jela Dzong (Trek Start)

Trek from Damchena to Jela Dzong, through alpine forests and yak herder pastures. Camp at Jela Dzong.

Day 7 – Jela Dzong to Tshokam

Trek through ridges and rhododendron forests. Camp at Tshokam pastureland. Overnight in tents.

Day 8 – Tshokam to Jigmelangtsho

Ascend to panoramic viewpoints before descending to Jigmelangtsho Lake, the largest on the route. Camp beside the lake.

Day 9 – Jigmelangtsho to Lavana

Trek past multiple alpine lakes and rhododendron groves to Lavana, the highest camp. Overnight in tents.

Day 10 – Lavana to Thimphu

Cross Lavana Pass (4240m) and descend via Phajoding Monastery overlooking Thimphu Valley. Drive to hotel. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 11 – Thimphu Sightseeing

Visit Buddha Dordenma, Takin Preserve, and Jungshi Paper Factory. Explore handicraft shops. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 12 – Thimphu to Paro

Visit Memorial Chorten and Textile Museum. Drive to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Day 13 – Departure

Transfer to Paro Airport for departure. Farewell and prayers for a safe journey.
