The Trans Bhutan Trail, once the lifeline of communication, pilgrimage, and trade, has been restored as one of Bhutan’s most remarkable cultural trekking routes. Stretching from Haa to Bumthang, this 18-day journey follows the footsteps of pilgrims, messengers, and traders who connected fortresses, temples, and villages across the kingdom. Today, the trail invites trekkers to experience Bhutan’s history, spirituality, and landscapes in their most authentic form. From alpine passes and pristine valleys to dzongs, monasteries, and vibrant villages, the journey blends adventure with culture. Along the way, you’ll immerse yourself in Bhutanese traditions, witness sacred sites, and embrace warm hospitality, making this trek a unique encounter with Bhutan’s timeless heritage.

Difficulty: Moderate – Cultural & Trekking Experience

Day 1 – Arrival in Paro

Arrive in Paro, complete visa formalities, and transfer to hotel. Visit Paro Dzong and stroll through Paro town & Kaja Throm market. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2 – Paro to Haa

Visit Kyichu Lhakhang and Drukgyel Dzong before driving via Chelela Pass to Haa Valley. Overnight in farmhouse.

Day 3 – Haa Panorama Hike

Explore Lhakhang Karpo & Nagpo, then enjoy a scenic hike with views of Haa Valley. Overnight in farmhouse.

Day 4 – Haa to Paro Trek

Trek from Kasho village across Kaleyla Pass to Ngopa village, returning to Paro. Overnight in hotel.

Day 5 – Paro to Thimphu Trek

Trek from Tshaluna to Buddha Dordenma via Pumo-la and Thaptsha-ka passes. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 6 – Thimphu to Punakha

Drive to Dochula Pass, trek along the Divine Madman Trail, and visit Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 7 – Punakha Sightseeing

Visit Khamsum Yulley Chorten, Punakha Dzong, and Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple). Overnight in Punakha.

Day 8 – Punakha to Gangtey

Drive via Lawa-la to Gangtey Valley, visit Gangtey Monastery, and hike the nature trail in Phobjikha Valley. Overnight in Gangtey.

Day 9 – Gangtey to Rukubji

Trek across meadows and yak pastures to Rukubji village. Overnight in homestay.

Day 10 – Rukubji to Trongsa

Trek through oak forests to Trongsa, visiting Trongsa Dzong and Royal Heritage Museum. Overnight in Trongsa.

Day 11 – Trongsa to Bumthang Gaytsa

Drive to Yotong-la Pass and trek into Bumthang, Bhutan’s spiritual heartland. Overnight in Gaytsa.

Day 12 – Bumthang Gaytsa to Jakar

Trek across Kikila Pass and descend to Jakar. Overnight in hotel.

Day 13 – Jakar to Ura

Visit Jakar Dzong and Wangduechhoeling Palace, then trek via Shaythang-la Pass to Ura village. Overnight in homestay.

Day 14 – Ura to Thimphu

Drive from Ura back to Thimphu, enjoying scenic landscapes. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 15 – Thimphu Sightseeing

Visit Buddha Dordenma, Royal Takin Preserve, and paper-making factory. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 16 – Thimphu to Paro

Visit Memorial Chorten and Textile Museum before driving to Paro. Overnight in Paro.

Day 17 – Tiger’s Nest

Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Bhutan’s most iconic landmark. Overnight in Paro.

Day 18 – Departure

Transfer to Paro Airport for departure. Farewell and safe journey.
