Overview

The Trans Bhutan Trail is Bhutan’s longest and most historic trek, stretching 403 kilometers from Haa in the west to Trashigang in the east. Once an ancient trade and pilgrimage route, it has been restored as a cultural and adventure journey that connects travelers with Bhutan’s heritage, remote villages, dzongs, and sacred monasteries. Over 38 days, this trail crosses 9 districts, 27 sub-districts, and 11 high passes, offering breathtaking Himalayan views, spiritual encounters, and deep immersion into Bhutanese life. It is the only trail that lets you experience Bhutan’s past, present, and future on foot, while building a true connection with nature and local communities.

Best Seasons: Spring (Feb–May), Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Day 1

Arrival in Paro, check-in, visit Paro Dzong, evening stroll in town & Kaja Throm market.

Day 2

Hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang Monastery) for breathtaking views and sacred history.

Day 3–5

Journey to Haa Valley, explore temples and villages, begin trek towards Paro via traditional trails.

Day 6–12

Trek through Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha valleys with visits to Buddha Dordenma, Dochula Pass, and Punakha Dzong.

Day 13–21

Continue eastward across Wangdue, Trongsa, and Bumthang, visiting ancient dzongs, sacred sites, and mountain passes.

Day 22–30

Traverse through Bumthang, Mongar, and Ura Valley, experiencing cultural heartlands and scenic highland trails.

Day 31–35

Cross into eastern Bhutan, trekking through Sengor, Lingmethang, Drametse, and reaching Trashigang Dzong.

Day 36–38

Flight back to Paro, sightseeing, hot stone bath, shopping in Paro town, and departure.
